If I Had to Start All Over Again…

I wish someone could have told me what I am

about to share with you when I got started.  I wish someone

could have told me what to focus on in order to

get my business off the ground.

The truth is that building a business from the

ground up is not easy. It is confusing and at times, let’s be honest…

just plain daunting. There are so many questions,

so many doubts and most of the time a lot of fear.

 

We all experience fear and doubt – I mean a lot!

 

You may be seeing these people who make it seem all

so easy, there you are alone behind your computer worrying about

how to make it through the week!!! Yes I know, I have been there myself.

 

Doubts and fear show up, especially for you my

adored overachievers, for those of you who do not like to fail,

those who always want to succeed in everything you do.

[I know we want everything perfect, we want everything

yesterday, and life is kind of hard when you are that way…  

I am that way so I understand.] : )

 

So I thought I would devote today’s content to what I would do 

differently, and what I would absolutely not worry about

if I was getting started all over again.

 

 

First, I like to remind people that opening a business is a

life changing decision, you are not picking up a hobby,

you are building a company and banking on your future.

 

If you choose to open any business, there are always costs involved.

So you have to decide if you’re truly passionate about this and willing

to invest in yourself. If you are, you have to responsibly pursue your dreams.

It is hard to answer this question as people have so many

different needs and personalities, as well as have so different

goals and aspirations.

 

BUT

 

But since people asked me what I would personally do, here is my answer.

 

1) I would focus on working with a mentor on mastering my personal story. There is NOTHING in your business that matters more when getting started than your story, your journey, and the reasons why it is a must for you to build this business and succeed. EVERYTHING you create will come out of that… the name of your business, your messaging, your marketing, your products I mean EVERYTHING!

 

2) I would create an online presence with a SIMPLE website – and I mean simple! You can create a website on a budget with simple tools like Leadpages and Optimize Press (these systems have templates and ideas on how you can set up a webpage in 2 hours or less, if you need more help check below my cheat sheet The Smart Start Up Resources Toolbox).

 

3) I would make sure that website has 3 main parts at minimum: a home page, an about page and most importantly what is called an opt-in page (a page where you offer people great content or value in exchange for your prospect’s information).

You must create an amazing resource for your ideal client, a resource that solves their most pressing problem, and give it away for free! Yes, really!

Okay, back to the steps!

 

4) I would select an email management system so I can start to grow my list. There are fabulous ones like Infusionsoft and Ontraport that are the “Rolls Royce” of client management systems, but if you are starting out, you can choose others that will work out perfect until you are more advanced. The best part? Some of them are even free for beginners!

 

5) I would commit to creating content for my IDEAL CLIENT on a weekly basis. Some people call this blogging. Blogging is ok, but I would go the extra mile and deliver awesome value (that is what I call content) to my ideal client so you can really focus on building your list/ your database.

 

6) I would start my social media accounts on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram at least, and make sure that I am posting there on a consistent basis and delivering value to the people who read about me.

7) I would take very strategic and consistent efforts to seriously grow my list of subscribers. Things you might consider are speaking opportunities, hosting online events, webinars and joint venture strategies so you can start building the future of your company.

 

8) More than anything else I would commit to being consistent in all those efforts and never be discouraged by slow growth at the beginning (you will create momentum, you will get there). Unfortunately, people get very motivated at the beginning but fail to be consistent – they create content once a month if even at all, speak twice a year, never make offers and then wonder why their business is not growing.

 

Consistency is KEY!

 

9) I would never, ever, under any circumstances, doubt that building my business is what I must do. I would TRUST that I am being infinitely guided in the direction of my dreams. I would remind myself that with enough focus, determination, persistence, and commitment I can master any skillset I require to be successful. I would never feel bad regarding the fact that I am just starting out… if you can make $100, you can make $1000 and so on and so forth – it is just a matter of time, persistence and building your skillsets.

 

10) Most of all – I would commit to experiencing gratitude for everything I already have. It’s okay to want more, but ALWAYS grateful for the opportunity of doing what I love to do every single day of my life. I would bring joy to every activity of my life. I would remember that the journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step. I would remember that every successful endeavor started as a dream and as something that at the moment seemed and felt impossible to achieve.
